Yamada Weir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for Irrigation Structures
The doctor who turned the dry earth green
Learn about the importance of agriculture and water in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture through "Nakamura Tetsu" !
Dr. Nakamura Tetsu, who passed away in December 2019, helped many people in Afghanistan, far from Japan. At the time in Afghanistan, water shortages continued, crops withered, food was scarce, and survival was difficult. Dr. Nakamura Tetsu, who was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, built a water intake weir modeled on the Yamada Weir in Asakura City. Thanks to this, water flowed on the cracked, dry land, crops could be harvested, and many people were able to smile. Why not learn about the importance of agriculture and water in Asakura City through the thoughts and ideas of Dr. Nakamura Tetsu, who connected Afghanistan with the Yamada Weir, a World Heritage Site?
